About the quote

William Blake (1757–1827), the brilliant and inspired English painter and poet, developed many prints that combined text and image in a profound complementary style. His work highlights the infinite nature of life, often through the wonder of its smallest details. Blake placed human imagination at the heart of nature, writing that ‘The world of Imagination is the world of Eternity’ and that ‘all you behold, though it appears without, it is within, in your imagination.’ Blake’s work was largely ignored during his own lifetime, but it become widely known during the 19th century through various artists and thinkers, primarily the Pre-Raphaelites.
We can consider Blake’s quote, from his poem The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, in the context that our eyes only see a small portion of the light spectrum, while there is a wide range of light waves we cannot see.
