About the quote

The Roman statesman, lawyer, philosopher, and scholar Cicero (106–43 BC) lived during a time of political turbulence prior to the formation of the Roman Empire. An excellent and renown speaker and writer, he contributed greatly to Latin language and philosophy, drawing wisdom from the earlier Greek traditions.

This quote is one such example of his pithy, well-formed and deep reflections from De Natura Deorum. It speaks of the fragility of opinion and mistaken understanding. If one’s views are wrong, mixed with personal bias, or coloured by distortions, they will not survive for long.
